2008 Giller Prize

It's hard to believe it's Giller time again, but the short-list was announced today. Congrats to all.

There is one glaring omission this year and that is Nino Ricci's The Origin of Species, one of the best, most original books I've read in a long time, and his best.. I reviewed it for the Ottawa Citizen and found myself racing through all nearly 500 pages, it was that good. I hope everyone reads it!

The Giller Prize gala is on November 11th.

The finalists are:

Joseph Boyden for his novel Through Black Spruce, published by Viking Canada

Anthony De Sa for his collection of short stories Barnacle Love, published by Doubleday Canada

Marina Endicott for her novel Good to A Fault, published by Freehand Books/Broadview Press

Rawi Hage for his novel Cockroach, published by House of Anansi Press

Mary Swan for her novel The Boys in the Trees, published by Henry Holt/HB Fenn

I loved Barnacle Love, and interviewed Anthony.
Wonderful book, great guy. I'm so happy to see it made the list!
